So my mom is showing me my little brother’s yearbook and kids in his class and stuff and she points to this one individual who I would otherwise have thought was a boy had I not seen the name. And my mom says “…and that’s a girl but I think she’s going to be a lesbian cause her parents shave her head like a boy and dress her like a boy and stuff”. And I paused for a moment and then in genuine curiosity said, “well is she transgender?” To which my mother responded, “I don’t have time to give a fuck what that is. God your so into that stuff. Does it have a penis or not - that’s what matters.”
I am absolutely in shock of how I can possibly come from someone so insensitive and narrow-minded and completely baffled by the fact that such people exist, or rather, that such people exist with no idea of their ignorance and absolutely not even the slightest inkling of openness to the fact that their might be another way.
